Council Vice President Helena Moreno to Host Screening and Panel Discussion of "The Children of Central City"

July 16, 2018

Councilmember-At-Large Helena Moreno
NEW ORLEANS - Tonight, Councilmember-At-Large Helena Moreno, in partnership with District "B" Councilmember Jay H. Banks, United Way of Southeast Louisiana, and others, is hosting a screening of "The Children of Central City," a striking perspective on the emotional trauma wrought by cyclical violence and the impact on the city's children.

"Violence does not just devastate in the moment," said Councilmember Moreno. "This remarkable work begins to peel back the ripple effects of violence on our city's youngest citizens, and the ways in which being witness or victim to violence can resonate for years. We need to confront and address not just violence, but its echoes if we desire lasting peace in our communities."

The screening will be held at the Power House Theater in Central City at 6 p.m. featuring a special welcome by First Lady Donna Edwards and Mayor LaToya Cantrell followed by a panel discussion moderated by Norman Robinson.

"The Children of Central City" is a special project of Times-Picayune funded by the USC Annenberg Center for Health Journalism and focuses on the long-term effects of violence in the Central City community, especially as it impacts children.
