City Council to Hold First of Six Scheduled Off-Site Meetings in 2018 as Council Chamber Undergoes Renovations

January 10, 2018

NEW ORLEANS - The New Orleans City Council Chamber closed to undergo renovations on December 17, 2017, and will remain so through much of the first quarter of this year. As a result, the Council has planned for up to the first six regular meetings of 2018 to be held off-site from City Hall in the Orleans Parish School Board (OPSB) Central Offices building located at 3520 General DeGaulle Drive. The first off-site regular Council meeting will take place onThursday, Jan. 11, 2018, at 10 a.m.

The OPSB facility on the West Bank has ample public parking, and its boardroom configuration will allow the Council to engage the public in a manner similar to normal proceedings. While there may be a short-term inconvenience with the relocation, the renovations will leave the public with a much-improved facility. The temporary location is just 12 to 15 minutes from downtown and offers the Council a cost-effective and efficient solution for the temporary disruption.

The Council plans to continue to provide live streaming for the off-site meetings, but it will not be through the Granicus system as seen on the Council website. The public will have access to live meeting coverage via the Council's official YouTube channel until proceedings resume in the newly-renovated Council Chamber in the spring. Video recordings of the meetings will be posted to the Council website for archiving upon conclusion of the meetings per the standard procedure.

Committee meetings of the Council, as well as Boards and Commissions meetings that are typically held in the Chamber, will be held in various sites, mostly in conference rooms in, or near City Hall. Members of the public with matters before Council committees or boards and commissions should check the websites of these entities for the meetings scheduled in January through March 2018.

From downtown, the public may utilize the below RTA routes and schedules to arrive at the OPSB facility:
  1. Bus 114 - Gen. DeGaulle Sullen: Leaves Elks Place at 9:05 a.m., arrival at approximately 9:20 a.m.; OR leaves Elks Place at 9:50 a.m., arrival at approximately 10:05 a.m.; OR leaves Elks Place at 10:40 a.m., arrival at approximately 10:55 a.m.
